MANVILLE Steve C. Sopko, 84, died Jan. 29 at the Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. He was 84.
Born in Nanticoke, Pa., he had been a resident of Manville since 1924.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290 in Manville.
Mr. Sopko owned and operated Sopko Moving and Storage in Manville from 1946 until his retirement in 1983.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville having served as past president and a former member of the Holy Name Society. He was a Past Grand Knight of the former Knights of Columbus Council 5051 in Manville, a member of the Knights of Columbus Monsignor Grill Council in Lake Wales, Fla., and was an exempt member of Manville Fire Co. No. 3.
Two brothers, John and Matej, and two sisters, Anna Thompson and Veronica Cianfrocca are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, Marcella A.(Komiskey) Sopko; five sons, Martin S. of Readington Township, Sylvester C. of Manville, Stephen G. of Hillsborough, Edward J. of Basking Ridge and William J. of Hillsborough; two daughters, Teresa M. Olszyk of Hampton and Margaret A. McConnell of Asbury; a sister, Mary Petroski of Piscataway; and 23 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at the Fucillo and Warren Funeral Home, Manville, followed by a funeral liturgy at Christ The King Roman Catholic Church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
