While President George W. Bush beats the bully pulpit about "evil," one fact remains hidden behind the rhetoric: hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens will be maimed and killed during President Bush’s war to "liberate" them and their oil reserves.
The pain of a parent losing a child or of a child losing a parent is never considered by the war-mongering axis of Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld. Imagine the fear of the Iraqi people, already suffering through years of punishing sanctions, as the strongest military in the world prepares to rain death and destruction upon them and their cities.
President Bush declares Saddam Hussein "evil" for his treatment of the Iraqi people, but his only answer to that evil is to attack and kill the very people whose treatment he decries. If that’s not Orwellian thinking, what is?
Americans should remember how they felt on Sept. 11 and realize that our own government is about to do the same to the Iraqi people 1,000 times over.
Remember: the Iraqi people love their children, too. Our unelected president doesn’t see this; he only sees oil, empire and his own trigger-happy fundamentalism.
When it comes to war, evil is on both sides of the equation.
