Arts Council seeks submissions for youth publication

The Arts Council of Princeton is preparing to publish its fifteenth edition of "Under Age: An Anthology of Poetry, Prose, and Artwork by Students under 18."
The Arts Council urges teachers, parents, and school administrators to encourage students to submit their most creative works of literature and artwork. Submissions in both English and Spanish will be accepted. Illustrations must be in black and white, and no larger than 8.5 by 12 inches.
All submissions need to include the student’s name, age, home and e-mail address, telephone number, school, grade and teacher’s name. Each written entry must be typed.
Those students whose work is chosen for publication will be invited to read or exhibit it at a publication party in late May. Students should make copies of their work; once submitted, it will not be returned.
Last year over 1,500 works were submitted to "Under Age." Because of the difficulty of choosing from works that vary in small ways, teachers should refrain from submitting numerous variations on a specific theme.
Last year’s publication led to unprecedented recognition for the selected contributors. One student was asked to read her poem on Bloomberg Radio and to the annual meeting of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, attended by Gov. James E. McGreevey.
All submissions must be received by March 14. No late work will be accepted. Only those students whose work has been selected will be notified.
