HIGHTSTOWN — The East Windsor Regional School District Monday appointed James Sheerin as the new interim chief school administrator.
Dr. Sheerin, who started working on Wednesday, will be paid $600 per day until a permanent replacement is hired.
"He has a forceful, take-charge personality. He knows construction and school finance," said Board of Education President Bruce Ettman.
Dr. Sheerin, an independent educational consultant and resident of Plainsboro, most recently served as interim superintendent for the Monroe Township School District. He was also superintendent of the Hackettstown and Livingston school districts after serving as principal of East Brunswick High School.
"My first goal is to learn the culture of the district," Dr. Sheerin said on his first day at his new position. "I need to acclimate myself and get my feet steady.
"The first thing I had to learn was how to close the schools. This is winter and the threat always looms."
Dr. Sheerin said that he is not a candidate for the permanent chief school administrator position, but he expects to stay for six months or more.
"I told the board that I will stay for as long as I am needed," he said. "I’m sure this will be a wonderful experience for me."
The public can meet Dr. Sheerin at the Feb. 10 school board meeting at Hightstown High School’s 700 wing at 7:30 p.m.
