The Battle of Monmouth Metro Stars, a boys’ U13 National I soccer team, is looking for an experienced, dedicated goalie for the spring season. Call Frank Dwyer at (732) 780-1222 or (732) 462-2010 for information.

Howell recreation is accepting registration for individuals and teams for its spring adult soccer program. Players must be age 18 or over to participate. Fee is $24 per player plus referee fees. The season runs from mid-March through May and games are played from 7-11 p.m.

Final registration for the Howell Intramural Hockey Club’s spring 2003 season will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Deerwood Park rinks when evaluations will be held. There is no residency requirement. The league is for players in kindergarten through high school. Registration fee is $75 per player with reduced fees for additional family members. A separate $50 volunteer fee is collected at registration but is returned if volunteer time is fulfilled.

Temple University All-American Dan Klecko, the Big East’s Defensive Player of the Year, was honored by the New Jersey Sports Writer Association as the College Player of the Year. Klecko, a graduate of Marlboro High School, is the only Temple Owl to be a unanimous All-Big East selection and is only the eighth player in Big East history to be a unanimous selection twice.

Last year, Klecko led the Big East in sacks (10) and tackles-for-a-loss (22.5) and ranked nationally in both categories (11th and fourth). The senior defensive tackle, who lives in Colts Neck, was the Owls’ team captain.

Klecko is the son of former NFL All-Pro Joe Klecko, who played with New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts. Joe Klecko also played his collegiate football at Temple.

Georgian Court College has inducted its first five honorees into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The members of the 2003 class are Robyn Saul Magovern, 1980, ‘92; Gail Scardillo Caverly, 1985, Carol Walters, 1991, Stacey Ryan, 1994 and Carolyn ‘Nicki’ Kelly, 1997. Each was recognized for her contribution to the Georgian Court athletic programs. They were honored at an induction luncheon prior to the receiving their Hall of Fame plaques at halftime of last Saturday’s basketball game with Nyack College.

The Aerials Gymnastics Team of the YMCA of Western Monmouth County made their competitive debut at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA meet.

In the 8-9-year-old age group, Kimberly Caruso took third place on the balance beam.

In the 10-11 age group, Lea Dorschneider won on the uneven bars and was second on the balance beam.

Tara Rabinowitz won the 12+ all-around title and was first on the bars. She took second place on the vault and the floor exercise and fourth place on the beam. Devon Viehman, bouncing back from a knee injury, won the balance beam and took third place on the vault and bars.

Sarah Morrison, Melanie Dorschneider, Jessica Machlovitz, Erica Greenberg, Cassi Lewski, Raquel Spagenberg and Jessica Schoolcraft also competed for the Aerials.

The Monmouth Gymnastics Cyclones participated in the Lehigh Valley Sports Academy Invitational in Lehigh, Pa.

In Level 6, age 7 and under, Daniel Tsinis was fourth in the all-around (51.40) with third places on the floor (9.40) and high bar (9.10).

Alex Elbogan was sixth in the age 8 all-around (52.50). He had a third place on the rings (9.00) and second on the vault (9.60).

Matt Daniel represented the Cyclones in the 10-11 age group.

Connor Harrington was fourth in the Level 5 age 8-9 group all-around (51.60). He was second on the rings (9.10) and third on the floor exercise (8.70). Teammate Ben Daniel was fifth in the AA (51.35). He was second on the parallel bars (8.70) and third on both the high bars (8.75) and vault (9.80).

In the 10-11 age group, Garret DeSantis was seventh in the all-around (50.50).

Ryan Harrington was fifth in the all-around (46.10) at Level 4.

In Level 3, ages 12-13, Vincent Smurro was second in the all-around (48.20). He won the rings (7.80) and was second on the high bar (8.50) and parallel bars (8.30.

Michael Tuhy was second in the age 14 division AA (44.95). He captured first place on the vault (8.15) and high bar (7.5) and was second on the floor (8.60) and the pommel horse (6.90).

The Marlboro Blue Devils, a Gold U-13 boys’ traveling soccer team, is looking for one or two dedicated players looking to join a competitive team, to round out its roster for the upcoming spring season. Players born between Aug. 1, 1989 and July 31, 1990 are eligible.
