Jerry Rovner to complete Peter Pantages’ term.

ALLENTOWN The Allentown Borough Council appointed Jerry Rovner on Tuesday night to fill the seat vacated by former Council President Peter Pantages last month.
Mr. Rovner, a Republican, served on the council for a few years in the late 1980s as a Democrat, Mayor Stuart Fierstein said.
"I look forward to working with him again," Mayor Fierstein said. "When I worked with him, I was on council. He was, at that time, a Democratic council (member). His motivation to change to Republican occurred after he left council."
Mayor Fierstein said the Allentown Republican Committee nominated three candidates for the seat.
In addition to Mr. Rovner, the others were Betsey Poinsett and Cynthia Cantor.
None of the candidates attended the meeting Tuesday night.
"All three have been longtime members of not only the community but also held various stints on committee, except for Betsey," Mayor Fierstein said. "All are public servants."
From the list of three, Council President Art West made the formal nomination to appoint Mr. Rovner.
The new councilman was not notified of his appointment until after The Messenger-Press’ Tuesday deadline.
Mr. Rovner will complete the remainder of Mr. Pantages’ term, which ends Dec. 31.
