LETTERS: Bad economy for municipal pool

I am sorry to learn that the YMCA is having financial problems. It is apparent to everyone that the economy is in bad shape. The stock market keeps going down, companies are going out of business and people are losing their jobs. This economic situation is producing less tax revenue for all levels of government.
Gov. McGreevey is struggling with ways to cut government spending. The governor has stated that he will not increase state aid to municipalities. This will cause a sharp increase in property taxes due to the increasing number of students in our township’s schools. High property taxes are a hardship for senior citizens and struggling young families.
Now is not the town for the township to spend more money. The proposal for the township to build an aquatic center, or have a joint venture with the YMCA for its pool is an untimely idea.
