Dorothy S. Baker

HIGHTSTOWN — Dorothy Scott Baker died Monday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 92.
   A longtime Princeton resident, she was a resident of Meadow Lakes in recent years.
   A native of Phoenixville, Pa., she was raised in Asheville, N.C., where she was a well-regarded classical pianist.
   Mrs. Baker aided her husband, the late Carlos Heard Baker, Woodrow Wilson Professor of English Literature at Princeton University, with research for his works on Ernest Hemingway, Emerson and the English Romantic poets. At his death in 1987, they had been married 55 years.
   Mrs. Baker was a member of the Princeton Present Day Club, the Princeton Garden Club and Trinity Episcopal Church.
   She is survived by daughters Diane Wagner of Mendham and Elizabeth Carter of Ridgewood; son Brian Baker of Marietta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
   Services will be private.

Charles J. Busanovich

Charles John Busanovich of Princeton Township died Monday at The Medical Center at Princeton. He was 92.
   Born in Kingston, he was a Princeton resident for more than 50 years.
   Mr. Busanovich worked for more than 30 years at the RCA David Sarnoff Research Center in West Windsor, where he was a pioneer in semi-conductor development and held patents related to photovoltaic cells.
   He was a full-scholarship graduate of The University of Pennsylvania, receiving a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
   He was an avid movie and still photographer, which led him to wedding and portrait photography in his early years. He was proud of his Lithuanian heritage, including his family relationship to Jonas Basanavicius, a leader of Lithuania’s pre-World War II independence.
   Husband of the late Eleanor Busanovich, he is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Edward Bentz of northern Virginia and Irene and Louis Worden of High Bridge; and grandsons Damon and Darian Worden.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton.
   Burial will follow at Princeton Cemetery.

Marianne Knorr
Longtime Princeton resident
   
Marianne Knorr died Feb. 7 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa. She was 89.
   Born in Germany, she immigrated to the United States in 1933 and completed her undergraduate education at Barnard College. She studied at the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Chicago and practiced in Chicago and San Francisco.
   She settled in Princeton in 1952 with her family. In 1993, she moved to Pennswood Village in Newtown, Pa.
   She was an avid pianist as well as a piano teacher and choir singer.
   Her husband, Klaus Knorr, emeritus professor of international studies at Princeton University, died in 1990.
   She is survived by her daughters, Monica Knorr of London, England, and Jean Knorr of Charlottesville, Va.; son Nicholas Knorr of Glencoe, Ill.; and grandchildren Kate Sinding of New York, Jenny Sinding of Northampton, Mass., Chris Knorr of Clinton, N.Y., and Julie Knorr of Glencoe, Ill.
   She expressed her preference for a concert in her memory in lieu of a service. The performance will be held at Pennswood Village at a time to be announced.

Mary M. Johnson

Mary M. Johnson of Princeton Township died Feb. 6 at home. She was 90.
   Born in Virginia and raised in Georgia, she was a Princeton-area resident for over 60 years.
   Educated at Duke University, she served as a social worker in the 1930s and 1940s, taught at Miss Fine’s School and was the head chemistry librarian at Princeton University for many years.
   Wife of the late Frank H. Johnson, she is survived by daughters Lanie Johnson of Sandpoint, Idaho, Mary Frances Cunningham of Bridgeport, N.Y., and Charlotte Pierce of Princeton; twin sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Robert McDonnell of Miami, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Margaret McGhee of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
   Private funeral arrangements are by Kimble Funeral Home, Princeton.

Beverly A. Zissman
Oral hygienist
   
Beverly Anne Zissman of Princeton died Sunday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 66.
   Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a Princeton resident for many years.
   She was an oral hygienist for more than 25 years and was active in the PTA.
   She was a graduate of Temple University.
   She is survived by her mother, Harriet Zissman of Philadelphia; daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Bob Peters of Lexington, Mass., and Amy and Rob Davis of Easton, Pa.; sons and daughters-in-law Eric and Dana Zissman of Princeton and Jonathan and Carolyn Zissman of Burlington; brothers and sister-in-law Josh and Joan Zissman of Philadelphia and Adam Zissman of Philadelphia; sister and brother-in-law Erica Zissman and Morty of Waltham; Mass.; and grandchildren Michaela, Danielle, Morgan and Eric Jr.

Marjorie V. Mayhew

HURT, Va. — Marjorie V. Mayhew died Wednesday at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was 84.
   Born in Rose Mills, Va., she and her husband moved to Plainsboro in 1936 and lived in West Windsor until 1970, when the couple retired to Hurt.
   She worked for many years as a waitress at the Peacock Inn and Lahiere’s restaurant in Princeton.
   She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Gretna, Va.
   She enjoyed quilting, ceramics, gardening and cooking.
   Daughter of the late Willie Edward and Julia Moore Slaughter, wife of the late Ashby Oakes Mayhew, sister of the late Catherine Lee Overstreet and Mary Frances Wingfield, great-grandmother of the late Brandon W. Keith, she is survived by daughters and son-in-law Patricia A. Higgins of Hamilton and Judy A. and Robert E. Kemp of Plainsboro; grandchildren Deborah A. Dixon and her husband, Paul, of Hamilton, Thomas W. Higgins Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of Sebring, Fla., Donald Ashby Higgins of Sebring, Fla., Robert E. Kemp II and his wife, Barbara, of West Windsor, and Robbin Lynn Kemp of Plainsboro; great-grandchildren Melissa Higgins, Kyle Higgins, Austin Kemp, Eva Marie Kemp and Megan Kemp; and stepgreat-grandchildren Crystal and Jessie Dixon.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church, Gretna, Va.
   Burial will be in the church cemetery.
   Visiting hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, Va., and other times at 229 Sylvan Road, Hurt, Va.
Lillian M. Smith
Daughter lives in West Windsor
   
BURLINGTON — Lillian M. Van Sciver Smith died Tuesday at The Medical Center at Princeton. She was 88.
   Born in Beverly, she was a lifelong Burlington resident.
   She was a graduate of Wilbur Watts High School in Burlington.
   Wife of the late Carleton M. Smith, she is survived by daughters and son-in-law Dr. Marsha J. Smith of West Windsor and Chris and Pete Pryor of Burlington City; sisters and brother-in-law Harriet Duchat of Burlington City and Norma and Ben Goldthorp of Riverside; and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington.
   Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
   Calling hours are 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
