Police from three towns were called to break up a fight Saturday among several teenagers at Tenpin Lanes in Manville, which was later ordered by police to be shut down early due to the ruckus, according to police reports.
One person was arrested after the fight that occurred shortly after midnight at the bowling alley in the Rustic Mall, according to police.
A 19-year-old Bridgewater man who was alleged to have waved a "gun" and threatened patrons was questioned by police and released without any charges after it was determined the object was a toy gun, police said. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
Officers from Bridgewater, Hillsborough and Manville police departments responded to the bowling alley fight, police said.
Craig Byra, 21, of Lincoln Avenue was charged with trespassing, police said. Police had told Mr. Byra to stay off of the alley’s property at 12:57 a.m. after he was allegedly involved in the fight.
Mr. Byra was taken to Somerset County Jail in Somerville in lieu of $1,500 bail. At the instruction of Manville Sgt. Jeffrey Petrone, the bowling alley shut down for the evening at 1:37 a.m., 23 minutes earlier than the usual closing time, due to the fights and disorderly conduct.
Manville Detective Mike Guilbert said nothing obvious or unusual prompted the incidents. He added that Tenpin is the most popular hangout spot for teenagers in Manville.
Tenpin Lanes owner Ben Phillips echoed that sentiment.
"In the winter time, our busiest months are January, February and March and everybody gets a little stir crazy," Mr. Phillips said. "Was there a full moon?"
