It was one-and-out for the Peddie boys’ basketball team.
Seeded fifth, the Falcons were Defeated, 65-54, by fourth-seeded Hun Wednesday night in the opening of the state Prep A Tournament.
St. Benedict’s is the tournament’s top seed, followed by Blair and Lawrenceville.
Ahead by 27-25 at the half, the host Raiders blew it open in the third period by outscoring Peddie, 20-6.
"We just could not score," recalled coach Chris Potash of his team’s problems in the third quarter. "Hun went on a 14-1 run and we could not put the ball in the basket. We wanted to get a basket before calling timeout and we couldn’t."
Peddie played well in the first half to stay with the Raiders. Going into the game, Potash thought his team could win this game.
"Hun is a good team, but I liked our chances."
Myron Rolle’s 13 points led Peddie. Ibrahim Jaaber scored 11, and Jamaal Hilliard added 10.
The loss dropped Peddie to 15-6. Hun improved to 12-8.
The Falcons could get another crack at the Raiders in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League tournament, which tips off tonight at the Hill School. The fourth-seeded Falcons open against Hill, seeded fifth. When these teams met earlier, Hill won on a shot at the buzzer.
"We are confident. I like our chances against Hill. The kids know it too."
Blair is seeded first in the MAPL tourney, followed by Lawrenceville and Hun. Sixth-seeded Mercersburg Academy rounds out the field.
