Mayor James Loper and Fire Commissioner William Meytrott commended members of the Pennington Fire Company for their "outstanding service to the citizens of Pennington Borough and Hopewell Valley."
The Pennington Fire Company held its annual Installation Dinner on Feb. 8 at the Pennington Firehouse on Broemel Place.
Serving as master of ceremonies was Peter Hallock. Chairman of the event was Thomas Blackwell.

The Fireman of the Year Award was presented to Michael Briehler for his outstanding service in 2002.
The top 10 responders for 2002 also were honored and are listed below:
Neal Blackwell, 467 fires, 36 drills; Bill Naylor, 390 fires, 33 drills; Doug Pinelli, 374 fires, 33 drills; Tommy Blackwell, 314 fires, 32 drills; Dwayne Thorton, 303 fires, 28 drills; Stewart Schwab, 282 fires, 30 drills; Mike Ackerson, 269 fires, 33 drills;. John Conard, 271 fires, 27 drills; Jim Bainbridge, 262 fires, 35 drills; and Erik Phillips, 260 fires, 32 drills.
The Chief’s Appreciation Award went to William Naylor, Thomas Blackwell and Neal Blackwell.
The President’s Appreciation Award went to Peter Hallock.
Special thanks were given to the Pennington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for the gift of a new computer system.

The 2002 activity report for Pennington Fire Company is a follows:
Station 51, Pennington Fire Company, ran a total of 519 calls during 2002, 259 of which were in Hopewell Township. Sixth-three calls were to aid Station 52, Hopewell Borough, and 32 calls provided help to Station 53, Titusville.
The company provided aid to other fire districts for 60 calls during 2002. Service hours for Station 51 in 2002 totaled 424. Man hours at fires totaled 4,814 in 2002.
Call classifications were: Automobile/Machinery, nine; Brush/Leaves/Fields, 24; CO alarms,10; gas leak, eight; HazMat, seven; MVA/Rescue, 50; nonresidential, 14; Pump cellar/building, 14; residential, 108; trash/dumpster, three; wires/transformer, 26; mutual aid, 83; accidental alarms, 88; false alarms, 57; other,18.
Of the 519 calls to which the Pennington Fire Company responded, 84 came between midnight and 8 a.m.; 221 between 8:01 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 214 between 4:01 p.m. and 11:59 p.m.
There were 36 scheduled drills during 2002.
During 2002, Engine 51 made 134 calls; Rescue 51, 269; Brush 51, 56; Tanker 51, 28; Ladder Tower 51, 89; and Utility 51, 42.
