Girls basketball

The monster snowstorm that blanketed our area earlier this week played havoc with local scholastic schedules, postponing many games and canceling others.
Caught in the middle of the weather disruptions was the Pennington School girls basketball squad, which had its scheduled Prep B state tournament quarterfinal match-up against Stuart Country Day on Tuesday postponed.
The second-seeded Red Raiders (14-8) and seventh-seeded Stuart Country Day planned to try again Wednesday, weather permitting. Pennington defeated Stuart during the regular season.
The winner of that game faces the victor of the game between third-seeded Solomon Schechter and sixth-seeded Saddle River Day in the Prep B semifinals.
Rutgers Prep, which earned the top seed in the Prep B tournament, downed the Red Raiders 44-30 on Feb. 12.
"We didn’t play too badly on defense (against Rutgers Prep)," Red Raider head coach Dean Waters said. "Offensively, we didn’t play well at all. Both teams were feeling each other out."
Marquis had a game-high 23 points Friday as the Red Raiders defeated Granville Charter 61-41 in their regular-season finale. Junior forward Anitra Tucker scored 16, and Rossi contributed 10. Pennington led 45-25 at halftime.
"We set up offensively to break Granville’s press," Waters said. "We blew their doors off by breaking the press. They have two nice players, and they have a nice team.
"Granville called off the press in the second half, after we had little trouble with it. We scored a lot of fast break points by beating their press."
