Last of snow days used this week

On Tuesday the school district used up the last of its three allotted snow days, which means that if schools have to be closed again for any reason, snow or otherwise, students, faculty and staff will lose a day of their spring break vacation.
Due to the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, the school district was able to save its last remaining snow day for Tuesday, when many people were still digging out from the blizzard, which dumped roughly 2 feet of snow on central New Jersey. Schools reopened Wednesday.
In addition to Tuesday, the district used a snow day on Feb. 7 and one during the first week of December.
"If we have any more snow days going forward then we’re going to have to make them up during spring break," said School Business Administrator Tom Venanzi.
Mr. Venanzi said any additional school closures from this point on will keep the schools open on April 21, the last day of the district’s spring break, scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, through Monday, April 21.
A fifth school closing would keep schools open on April 16 in addition to the 21st and any school closings beyond that point would have to be made up at the end of the year in June.
The roughly 2 feet of snow that covered school driveways and parking lots, meant lots of snowplowing for district maintenance workers, Mr. Venanzi said. Mr. Venanzi said the storm cost the district $1,830 in materials and added labor expenses.
