No flooding problems after last week’s rain

The mountains of snow that were erected along roadsides and in parking lots in Hillsborough did not lead to any significant flooding when warmer temperatures and a heavy rainfall arrived late last week.
According to Department of Public Works Director Buck Sixt, the only flooding that did occur in Hillsborough was some minor flooding in the area of Blackpoint Road and Amwell Road.
No Hillsborough homes in that region were affected by the flooding.
"We made out pretty well," said Mr. Sixt. "We were preparing all week for the rains by clearing catch basins and it looks like it paid off for the most part.
He pointed out that while Hillsborough is not prone to severe flooding, like neighboring Manville, sections of Three Bridges Road, Hillsborough Road, Beekman Lane and Valley Road have been known to fill up with water quickly during heavy rains.
Unlike Hillsborough, some communities across the tri-state area suffered severe flooding as a result of the rapid thawing of the more than 2 feet of snow that was dumped on the Northeast early last week.
Despite the below freezing temperatures that accompanied the massive snowfall, temperatures rose dramatically — into the 40s — in the days that followed, resulting in the relatively rapid melting.
Just as some communities in the tri-state area were flooded by the rapid snow thaw, others, including New York City, seemed plagued by an influx of potholes that seemed to appear as a result of the quickly changing weather patterns.
Mr. Sixt noted that Hillsborough’s roadways were spared from such abnormalities.
