Charter School to host first teachers’ conference

As part of Princeton Charter School’s commitment to sharing good educational practices, the school is sponsoring its first annual professional development conference March 14.
The conference, to be held at the school’s Ewing Street site, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The conference is free and open to all New Jersey public school teachers, administrators and board members.
The conference is being underwritten by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Education.
Mark Schlawin, a mathematics and science teacher who is chairing the conference, notes that "since state-mandated GEPA testing ends on March 13, March 14 is a great time for faculty to begin preparing for next year."
The conference will offer three tracks: administrative, elementary and middle-school math and science.
Among the presentations scheduled are "Effective standards-based curriculum development," "Approaches to world language instruction in the lower grades" and "Integrating math and science with good quantitative labs out of (almost) nothing."
Four individual sessions in each track will last about one hour with breakfast and lunch provided.
Additional program information and registration materials are available on Princeton Charter School’s Web site, www.pcs.k12.nj.us.
Charter schools deemed successful by the Department of Education are awarded grants to help them promote their educational practices without having an impact on their operating budgets. Princeton Charter School received a $50,000 grant last year and an additional $84,560 this year.
