Joseph Collura, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, at home.
Born in New York City, he was a life-long resident of Jamesburg until moving to Spotswood four years ago. He was a self-employed general contractor in the Jamesburg-Monroe Township area for over 65 years, retiring in 1980. Actively involved in the community, he served over 20 years in many capacities for the Jamesburg and Monroe Township Senior Citizens Club including as president and director. He served for 14 years as a commissioner for the Jamesburg Fire Company and was a long time third degree communicant of St. James R.C. Church, also in Jamesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Collura; a son, Paul, and his wife, Patricia, of Jamesburg; a sister, Pheobe Hallisay of Monroe; three grandchildren, Linda Caccioppoli and Mark and Matthew Collura; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, from the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home in Monroe. Funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. James R.C. Church. Interment took place in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Monroe.
