3 contested races in FRHSD election

There will be contested races for three seats on the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education in the April 15 election. The deadline for candidates to file a petition to run for the board was Feb. 24.

The board oversees the operation of the FRHSD, which is made up of eight western Monmouth County communities and operates high schools in Colts Neck, Freehold Borough, Freehold Township, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro. Englishtown and Farmingdale are the other two member towns.

According to information provided by district administrators, incumbent Bernice Hammer and challenger Michael Buchalski will be seeking the three-year term to represent Freehold Borough.

Under the system that pairs up FRHSD communities during elections for school board members, residents of Freehold Borough and Freehold Township will vote on that representative.

Seeking a three-year term to represent Howell will be incumbent Terry Kraft and challenger Joan Leimbach. Residents of Howell and Farmingdale will vote on that representative.

Seeking a three-year term to represent Manalapan will be incumbent Patricia Horvath and challenger Allen Forkowitz. Residents of Manalapan and Englishtown will vote on that representative.

There will be an uncontested race in Farmingdale, where incumbent Kathie Lavin will run to complete a one-year unexpired term. Residents of Howell and Farmingdale will vote on that representative.
