OBITUARIES

ROLAND L. "TINY" REUTER, 75, of Whiting died Feb. 12 at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Middletown for nine years before moving to Whiting four years ago. He was warehouse manager for H.J. Heinz, Newark, for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He also worked for Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel, for several years. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II as a machinist mate, third class. He was a member of VFW Post 4303, Keansburg, and a former communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Bartolina Campanella Reuter, in 1999. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lin Conaway of Howell, Cheryl and Jim Demarais of Middletown, and Maryanne and Jim Bloodgood of Brick Township; and five grandchildren. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

MATHIAS YOUNG, 90, of Applewood Estates, Freehold Township, died Feb. 24 at home. Born in New York City, he lived in Hillside and Brick Township before moving to Freehold Township four years ago. He was the operator of Young’s Bake Shop in Elizabeth from 1946 until his retirement in 1963. Prior to that he was a postal service supervisor in New York City for 15 years. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Gertrude Gurgo Young; a sister, Anna Weber of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; and two nieces.

ROSEMARY GIBLIN, 58, of East Brunswick died Feb. 20 at home. Surviving are a daughter, Eileen of Lopatcong; two sons, John of East Brunswick and Kevin of Brick; and three grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

FLORENCE BULLOSS-SPIRES, 79, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Piscataway, died Feb. 20 in Hernando Pasco Hospice, Dade City, Fla. Her first husband, Harry A. Bulloss Sr., died in 1994. Surviving are her husband, Lester Spires of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a son, Harry A. Bulloss Jr. of Washington Township; three daughters, Frances Remus Sasashima of Fair Oaks, Calif., Harriet J. Leavitt of Brick and Dolores "Dee" Ray of East Brunswick; a brother, Frank Gutowski of Florida; a sister, Rose Gloc of New City, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and eight grand-grandchildren. Services were held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Old Bridge. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. MARTIN L. CORNELL, 69, of Howell died Feb. 24 at home. Born in Cooperstown, N.Y., he lived in South Kortright, N.Y., before moving to Howell in 1960. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5698, Brick, and American Legion Post 54, Freehold. He was a union electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1319, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for 35 years, retiring in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gertrude Cornell; two sons, Klause Cornell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Martin "Butch" Cornell of Howell; three brothers, Howard Cornell of Fish’s Eddy, N.Y., Leroy Cornell of Kansas and Loren Cornell of Pennsylvania; and three grandsons. All arrangements were private and under the direction of the C.H.T Clayton & Sons Funeral Home, Adelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 54, 62 W.
