Two men were charged with burglary following a four-week investigation by detectives from communities throughout Middlesex County, including South Brunswick.
Kumba Davis, 29, of North Brunswick and Devonne Savage, 29, of New Brunswick were charged with burglary March 27 in connection with burglaries in South Brunswick and elsewhere in the county, police said.
According to police, the men were charged with breaking into five township houses since December, including two within the last week. Police said the burglars struck houses in Fresh Ponds Village on Breeze Drive as well as on Revere and Cactus roads.
According to Detective James Kinard, lead investigator from South Brunswick Police Department, the men were linked to 40 burglaries throughout the county, including five in Edison.
The men stole jewelry and cash after breaking into the houses by shattering sliding glass doors or prying open front doors, police said.
Both men are being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center on $25,000 bail. Police said they are continuing to investigate.
Investigators from the Middlesex County prosecutor’s office, North Brunswick, East Brunswick, Metuchen, Piscataway, Highland Park, Monroe, Edison, and South Brunswick worked on the case, police said.
South Brunswick Police Chief Michael D. Paquette said in a press release, "Criminals have to realize that you can not cross township boundaries and expect to slip away. The collective effort of these officers halted this crime spree."
