Graduating seniors have until April 11 to submit their applications and essays to qualify for one of two $2,500 scholarships offered by the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. Scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors from New Jersey who plan to further their education either at a college, university or trade/technical school.
Winners will be notified in early May and will be awarded the scholarship on Mar 26 during the Memorial Day ceremony held at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial, located off the Garden State Parkway at exit 116 in Holmdel.
In addition to the scholarship application and proof of acceptance to a college or trade school, each applicant must submit a 250-300 word essay about his/her visit to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. All aboard for Pine Creek RR’s 51st season
The Pine Creek Railroad of Allaire State Park will open its 51st year of operations with its annual "Easter Express" April 12, 13, 19 and 20. The Easter Bunny will ride the train and greet children with a souvenir of their ride. Trains will leave every half-hour between noon and 4 p.m.
The fare is $5 per person, and tickets will be available at the train station April 12, 13, 19 and 20 — the weekends of Palm Sunday and Easter.
The New Jersey Museum of Transportation’s Pine Creek Railroad is the oldest continuously operated steam preservation railroad in the country, according to a press release. Proceeds from this event will further the restoration work of the museum and be used to help restore two historic railcars to operation, including wheelchair lifts on the railcars for persons with handicaps.
