Jane Shaughnessy, a junior at Hillsborough High School, is putting up a fence as her community service project.
Jane has been a Girl Scout with Troop 72 for 11 years and is now working on her Gold Award, the highest award a Girl Scout can earn (equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award). Her project is completing the fence laying the foundation for an 18th century garden behind the Old Dutch Parsonage which is part of the Wallace House Historic Site in Somerville.
Currently she is working with Jim Kurzenberger, curator for the site, on obtaining the needed lumber for the fence, and collecting materials like broken clay pottery, china, and sea shells which, mixed with gravel, will make up the walkways.
The Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Historic Site is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Call 725-1015 for more information.
