Members of the Monmouth County Audubon Society will lead a Spring Bird Walk April 12 at Sandy Hook, to commence at the visitor’s center at 9 a.m.
Birders will search for migrants such as raptors, songbirds and other north-flying species. Attendees will likely see falcons, ospreys and piping plovers.
The birds prefer flying over land to flying over water and often lay over at Sandy Hook to feed and renew their energy before flying over Raritan Bay and New York Harbor.
The walk is free and open to both members and nonmembers of the Monmouth County Audubon Society.
Birders should bring binoculars and field guides, and dress in layers to be prepared for cold, blustery conditions.
