The Brick Municipal Alliance Committee on Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Youth Services (BMAC) is offering up to four $500 cash awards to township high school students. To be eligible, students must be graduating seniors who have performed a "pure act of kindness" sometime during their high school career prior to March 31, 2003.
For the purpose of this award, a pure act of kindness is considered to be a service performed for another individual, a nonfamily member, without the expectation of any monetary, academic or service organization gains. Therefore, any activity that is done for graduation requirements, Boy or Girl Scouts, civic or service clubs, or faith-based organizations does not qualify.
In order to be considered for the award, students must submit an application accompanied by a 250 word essay and a letter of recommendation confirming their act. There are no academic eligibility requirements and students do not have to be pursuing post-secondary education.
A committee of BMAC members will review the applications and make the final decision.
Applications are available through the guidance offices of both Brick public high schools, most parochial high schools in the area, or by calling the BMAC office at (732) 262-1044. The deadline for receipt of the application is May 1.
