I am writing in response to the letter "Consider the Lessons to be Learned From War," News Transcript, April 2, 2003. The last sentence refers to Gen. [William] Westmoreland.
To imply a similarity between the current Gulf War and the Vietnam War is incredibly simplistic and shockingly ignorant. The Vietnam War dragged on for years and tens of thousands of Americans died.
When this letter was published, the war was approximately two weeks old and tens of Americans died. Not exactly the same situation. Be in favor of the war or against, your choice. But do not make ridiculous comparisons.
