A borough soccer mom has been indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on charges that she used funds from the Alexander Batcho Intermediate School PTA treasury to repay money she took from the Manville Soccer Club when she was the club’s treasurer.
Colleen Giles-Good, 37, of West Camplain Road was charged with theft by deception and theft by failure to make a required disposition, both in the third degree.
The grand jury on April 3 upheld a February charge made by the Manville Police Department that Ms. Giles-Good wrote out a $1,000 check from the PTA treasury and stole 165 cases of candy intended for a PTA fund-raiser during her term as president in November of 2001.
Manville Lt. Mark Sniscak previously said the combined theft totaled $5,719.
The grand jury also indicted Ms. Giles-Good on charges of taking $900 from the soccer club in August or September of 2001.
According to the indictment, she wrote the check out for personal use "by creating a false impression that she, as the soccer club treasurer, was authorized to write checks from the soccer club."
She then used the PTA funds to pay her debt to the soccer club, according to the indictment.
Manville Detective Sgt. John Crater said he charged her after the present PTA president, Debbie Gregor, noticed a discrepancy in the books.
Ms. Giles-Good applied for a pre-trial intervention program after she was charged in February. If she is approved, the charges against her would be dismissed.
Anthony Mignella, the public defender representing Ms. Giles-Good, declined to comment on the charges.
"I really don’t comment on stories. It’s one of our policies," he said.
