EAST WINDSOR Municipal election season will start quietly, as there are no contested positions in the township’s primary races.
Township Mayor Janice S. Mironov, Deputy Mayor Marc Lippman, and council members Walter Daniels and Marsha Weinstein each will be seeking re-election on the Democratic ticket. The four legislators were elected as a bloc in 1995 and have served two consecutive terms. Ms. Mironov also served on the council from 1990 through 1993.
Mr. Daniels said, "We have worked together as a great and effective team, creating an open and positive environment for our town and our residents. We have been accessible, visible officials and have seen large numbers of residents coming forward to volunteer on our township boards and committees. I would be proud to continue our good progress and further serve the community."
The Republican candidates are Shari Benson, Nicholas DiDia, Michael Lev, and Elana Meiri.
Mr. Lev is a former councilman, last serving in 1997.
Ms. Meiri said, "The council needs to be a meeting of the minds. The council is an important liaison between the township and the county. We need numerous voices speaking in unison, not just one voice."
Each of the candidates is seeking one of the four available four-year seats on the seven-member council. All of the current council members are Democrats.
Primary elections will be held June 3.
