Before she read from her new book From Lava to Life: The Universe Tells Our Earth Story, she gave out "REAL" stardust for the kids to spread on their hands, faces and pants. Some even got in their hair. Ms. Morgan wore a robe with bright, rainbow-colored Christmas lights her neighbor made for her, and also showed off the skull of a deer she found in the woods.
She read a few pages of From Lava to Life, which is illustrated by Dana Lynne Andersen. The universe narrates the book, which combines facts and illustrations to tell the story. It is a story about the first life on Earth, and the second book of a trilogy.
Her first book is called Born with a Bang: The Universe Tells Our Cosmic Story (2002), which is about the beginning of the universe. She is working on the third book about mammals. She doesn’t have a title, but asked for possible titles. One kid suggested Morphing Mammals.
Ms. Morgan, who is 47 years old, lives in Princeton. She has a 12-year-old son, who she says was her inspiration for the book trilogy.
