‘A Fair to Remember’

June Fete 2003 will mark 50 years of Auxiliary service.

A Fair to Remember, the 50th annual June Fete in support of The Medical Center at Princeton, will take place on Saturday, June 7, on the Princeton University Athletic Fields on Washington Road.
June Fete is being sponsored — as it has been sponsored for 50 years — by the Auxiliary of The Medical Center at Princeton. This year’s theme salutes the hard work and dedication of the many volunteers that have made this fund-raiser such a successful and beloved Princeton tradition.
A Fair to Remember, which will evoke the nostalgia of classic movies, promises to be the grandest Fete yet, organizers say. In recognition of the leading role that women have played in supporting the MCP, the Fete’s proceeds will benefit the MCP’s Breast Health Center.
The event’s co-chairs are Bettie Greber of Princeton and Karen Fagard of Skillman.
During May, be on the lookout for Chairs on Parade. Twelve handcrafted, ladder-back chairs, decorated by local artists and celebrities, will be on display around town. Then the chairs will be put up for auction at the Fete.
Also around town will be the Fete’s 50th anniversary poster, which has been designed by Denise Steidel of West Windsor, 17, who was recently honored by the Girls Scouts of Delaware-Raritan as one of six "2003 Girl Scouts of Distinction."
A junior at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South and a member of the National Art Honor Society, Denise has employed the classic June Fete hot air balloon as the poster’s keynote. Her royal blue-and gold image will be featured on silk ties, golf shirts and Fete T-shirts as well as souvenirs, games and field decorations.
Preceding the daylong Fete itself will be Up, Up and Away: A Golden Celebration Dinner Dance, on Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m., in the great tent at Princeton University Athletic Fields. Introducing the dinner dance, at 6 p.m., there will be a preview of Fete shops, art, and auction items. For Up, Up and Away tickets, call (609) 921-6016.
A Fair to Remember, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will offer festivities, food and fun.
Once again, the Fete’s 10k race will be taking place at 8 the morning of Saturday, June 7, followed by the One Mile Fun Run for kids at 9 a.m. For more information, call (908) 359-4506. There’s also a new race, the 5K, also at 8 a.m.
The day will continue with new and improved children’s games; pony rides and a petting zoo; "Sports Alley"; flea markets; The Art Tent; "A Lane of Shops" featuring crafts and boutique items; The Garden Tent, with demonstrations and lectures by master gardeners; an auction of "Princeton treasures" donated items, and continuous food and entertainment.
The Fete’s special auction will feature a silver 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320, valued at $48,475, provided by Mercedes-Benz of Princeton. Only 1,500 tickets will be sold. The Fete will also feature a 50/50 raffle, with tickets on sale prior to and during the day.
Volunteers are needed, corporate sponsors are needed, Fete program advertisers are needed.
