It was time to say farewell to an old friend.

LAMBERTVILLE The kids who walk by 46 Buttonwood St. to and from school have lost a trusted admirer and friend.
April 21, K-K Edwards (short for Kitty-Kat), left her 12-year post on the front porch of Mikie and Choc Edwards’ house for the special place she will occupy in pet heaven.
Ever since moving in with Mikie and Choc some 12 years ago she adopted them K-K made herself known on Buttonwood Street as a talkative, friendly feline who loved greeting everyone who passed within hearing range of her front porch.
At some point, K-K learned the time of day by the passing of school children by her house, and every morning at exactly 7:45, she would stand by the door to be let out on the porch, where she meowed good-morning to the kids and even some parents and purred thankfully as they pet her and called her by name.
Then at 3:05 in the afternoon, she’d again stand by the door and repeat her ritual with unyielding loyalty to the kids who’d become her friends.
Several months ago, K-K began to lose weight and complain of pain to her dad, Choc, who never missed a beat in the life of his beloved cat. After many visits to the vet and recurrences of her condition, Choc and Mikie took her in for one last time April 21. Sadly, they were told K-K had an inoperable tumor, and so they said goodbye.
A sign bearing a picture of K-K now hangs on the front porch of 46 Buttonwood St., K-K’s final greeting to her friends. The sign reads, "On Monday, April 21st, Choc and I had to say goodbye to K-K. It was time for her to make another journey. It was hard for us to say good-bye, but K-K was not feeling well, and the doctor could not help her."
We want to say many, many thanks to all of you who took time to stop and greet her as you passed our house on your way to and from school. As you know, K-K always knew what time you’d be passing by, and every day she asked to be outside to greet you along your way.
You will always be special to us, and most of all to K-K.
