Reorganization meeting held Tuesday

The Manville Board of Education re-elected Dorothy Bradley as its president during the board’s Tuesday night reorganization meeting.
Ms. Bradley was the unchallenged nominee and won the spot with unanimous consent.
The vice presidency, which will be filled by Ken Lessing for another year, was initially challenged with a nomination for Lou Petzinger. After two consecutive votes ended in a tie, Mr. Petzinger withdrew from the race.
The board approved continuing service with its counsel, team and school physicians, bank, asbestos management company and numerous other firms.
School Business Administrator Richard Reilly said the board is not obligated to open those positions up to a competitive bid under state law. If board members raise concerns over the firms chosen, they may investigate other services and prices, he added.
In other business, Mr. Reilly presented a plaque to former member Mary Lou Cebula, thanking her for 14 years of service to the board.
Ned Panfile replaced Ms. Cebula, who did not run for re-election, for a three-year term.
Ms. Bradley appointed Mr. Petzinger to the position of delegate to the Somerset County School Boards Association; Ms. Bradley will hold the delegate seat on the New Jersey School Boards Association and Lisa Galasso will continue to serve on the Jointure for Community Adult Education.
Committee appointments were not announced publicly Tuesday night.
