Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, has announced Heather Capraun has received the Dr. Lester A. Barnett Nurse of the Month Award for March. Capraun serves as a charge nurse at Monmouth’s Gloria York Renal Center.
A resident of Eatontown, she was commended for being an "asset to the renal team and consistently going above and beyond the call of her position." One of her efforts was making and packaging holiday cookies for patients receiving outpatient dialysis at the center.
Capraun joined the center approximately three years ago, and also serves as a preceptor for new nurses in her current role. She received her nursing diploma at Bayonne Hospital School of Nursing, her bachelor of arts degree in psychology at Rutgers University, Newark, and her bachelor of science in nursing at Bloomfield College.
MCOC nurses recognized with grant awards
Medical Center of Ocean County in Brick announced the winners of the 2003 Kellogg Nursing Grant Awards. The winners include Janet McGeehan, R.N., Point Pleasant; Jeanine McDermott, R.N. BSN, Point Pleasant; Leah Guardino, R.N., MSN, CCRN, Toms River; Jill A. Veenboer, R.N., Point Pleasant; and Renee Manuel, R.N., OCN, Tinton Falls.
The award program was established by Elizabeth Irwin Kellogg, a staunch supporter of nursing and the Medical Center of Ocean County, and one of the founding directors of the MCOC foundation. She introduced the Kellogg Award to acknowledge the important contributions that nurses make in providing quality care for patients. Her wish was that recipients use the award money to enjoy something special that they could not have otherwise done. Kellogg died in 1995, and her family continues her legacy through its support of the MCOC foundation.
