HIGHTSTOWN — Stability was the theme of Monday’s East Windsor Regional Board of Education annual reorganization meeting, as both board President Bruce Ettman and Vice President Ricardo Perez were elected to serve second consecutive terms at their respective positions.
Mr. Ettman was nominated by board member Susan Lloyd; fellow member Stuart Dolgon nominated Mr. Perez. Both were unopposed and were elected unanimously.
"This is a period of great transition in our district," Mr. Ettman said. "We want to continue the positive momentum we have developed over the past several years."
James Hauck, the newest member of the board, was relatively quiet during his first meeting. His only comment was to thank board members who welcomed him to the group.
Mr. Hauck replaces former board member, Sheri Grunwerg, who served for nine years, four as president.
Mr. Dolgon and Mr. Ettman took the opportunity to bid farewell to their comrade.
"For the 90 percent of East Windsor who never attend meetings and only heard about her from the papers or by word of mouth, Sheri was a tireless advocate for the children of this district," Mr. Dolgon said. "She took the time to teach me when I started on this board. She walked me through the issues and mechanisms of the board."
Mr. Ettman said, "Sheri made considerable contributions to this board. Her wealth of knowledge — she leaves some big shoes to fill."
He finished by listing the board’s goals for the coming year.
"We need to develop respect and politeness between faculty, staff, the board, administration, and students. We need to make objective, rational decisions. And, we need to complete our quest to make this the finest district in the area."
