Children in the Lost Valley section of town may soon have some new playground equipment to play on.
The borough has applied for a $15,000 grant from Somerset County for the purchase of new playground equipment for Lincoln Park, located in the Lost Valley. Councilwoman Susan Asher, Borough Council liaison to the Recreation Department, announced the borough’s application for the grant at the council’s April 28th meeting.
Borough Administrator Gary Garwacke said Lincoln Park is one of two parks in town that have not been upgraded with new playground equipment in recent years.
"All of our major parks have already been upgraded with the latest, safest playground equipment. Lincoln and Dukes park are the only two we have gotten to yet," he said. "We’re doing Lincoln now and we expect to get to Dukes soon."
Mr. Garwacke indicated that Dukes Park has yet to be completed since the Recreation Department does not offer any full time programs at the park and the park’s small playground is not utilized as often as the other playgrounds in town.
Borough Recreation Director Rich Armstrong submitted the application for the county grant last week.
Mr. Garwacke expects that it will be about a month’s time until the borough finds out whether or not the county has accepted Manville’s grant application.
