Hopewell Valley Regional School District
The Hopewell Valley Regional School District, in partnership with the Recreation Foundation of Hopewell Valley, Inc. is fulfilling its commitment to start development of athletic fields on the Timberlane Middle School property, according to Robert Sopko, schools superintendent.
"Planning and funding for the athletic fields continue to be a community-wide endeavor. Thanks to the donation of David Robinson, community member and proprietor of Natural Edge, 200 to 300 cedar trees will be harvested from the property and recycled into furniture, fencing and architectural landscape pieces for which his firm is known nationwide," Dr. Sopko said Tuesday.
"I utilize and make the most of every piece of wood," Mr. Robinson explained.
Mr. Robinson’s agreement with the school board and the Recreation Foundation is estimated to save the district $5,000 for this phase of the project, according to Dr. Sopko, who said the trees slated for removal will be pretagged and approved by the district under the supervision of Hill Environmental Group.
"Through the Recreation Foundation we continue to seek the necessary funding for the much needed fields," said Dr. Sopko.
"Our goal is to be able to eliminate the $80,000 budgeted annually to bus athletes to off-campus practices and games for which we don’t have fields. The clearing of land is the first phase of this approved and permitted project and we are very grateful for David Robinson’s environmentally creative contribution," the superintendent concluded.
