A 16-year-old South Brunswick High School student was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, after he pulled a knife with a 3-inch blade during an altercation behind the high school May 1, police said.
South Brunswick Police Detective Jim Stoddard said the student was arguing with another student from North Brunswick Township High School after school. He would not say what the dispute was about, citing the student’s age.
"They had some kind of a history. They became involved in an argument and it escalated into a shoving match," Detective Stoddard said.
The student was held at the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center, police said.
School district Superintendent Sam Steward declined to comment on the incident.
