Based on the article "Next up: school budget" in the April 24, Hillsborough Beacon, it seems as if the Township Committee is not getting the voter’s message when they soundly rejected the $85.3 million school budget.
Paring down the budget by about $300,000 to $400,000 as anticipated by Mayor Tony Gwiazdowski equates to less than half of one percent of $ 85,300,000.
An amount so small it is nothing less than insulting to the Hillsborough Township tax payers.
Also, in the same article, Superintendent of Schools Robert Gulick pointing out that the Township Committee is under no legal obligation to reduce the budget is an indication that Dr. Gulick is also not getting the message from those that are paying his salary.
This budget needs to be reduced by millions, not a few hundred thousand.
While we all want what’s best for the children, the taxpayers are picking up the tab. We can do better.
