Schools should have uniforms

To the editor

As I walk through the hallways of Hillsborough High School, I see many students who are not dressed appropriately for school. School uniforms should be implemented at Hillsborough High School.
Hillsborough High School has a liberal dress code, which is not enforced. It states that inappropriate clothing must be removed.
"What should I wear today?" is a question that plagues Hillsborough High School students daily. If students at Hillsborough High School are required to wear uniforms they will no longer have to worry about how they’re going to dress in the morning. School uniforms would give students more time in the morning to do other things. This change would make easy preparation for students.
Also, the dress code we have at this school is not strictly enforced enough. At Hillsborough High School the administrators and advisors have more important things to worry about than enforcing a dress code, so it seems. By requiring students to wear uniforms it will eliminate temptation by students to dress promiscuously and it will give the principals less to worry about.
School uniforms will also save families money. If students are required to wear a uniform, then they won’t have to buy as much clothing. There are many less fortunate students at Hillsborough High School who cannot afford to keep up with today’s latest trends. Uniforms will allow students and their families to save money and look fashionable in their school issued uniform.
Inappropriate clothing is another issue at Hillsborough High School. Many students go against the rules and wear clothing pertaining to drugs, sex, alcohol and violence, etc. Articles of clothing with such messages or images are often found offensive, which is against our non-strict dress code. With school uniforms, people will no longer have to be subject to things that they don’t want to know about.
Finally, if school uniforms are implemented at Hillsborough High School, it will eliminate social-economic cliques. At our school now there are many cliques of people. These students are in many ways associated by how they dress. There is a small percentage of less fortunate students who attend Hillsborough High School, and by having school uniforms those students will no longer look different. Also, many females are called mean names because of the way they dress. This rule will cut down on teasing associated with dressing. Books should not be judged by their cover.
School uniforms are the answer for Hillsborough High School. School uniforms will not only make easy a.m. prep for students, but it will also better the school as a whole. Most importantly everyone will feel the same, and be judged by their character.
