Percussionist Stephanie Pfoutz, a sophomore from Manville, performed with the Brass Ensemble of The College of New Jersey at a special concert in New York, last month.
The ensemble was invited to present the opening concert of the 31st annual New York Conference for Brass Scholarship on April 11th at the Park Central Hotel in New York City.
"The ensemble used the music of Professor Emeritus David Uber, who is widely recognized as one the pre-eminent composers for brass instruments," said Gary Fienberg, director of the brass ensemble.
The ensemble performed both contemporary and classical works including three cantos featuring Jeff Jarvis on trumpet; "Legend of the Sleeping Bear" featuring Don Butterfield on tuba; and "The Virgen della Marcherena" with Jim Stubbs.
The New York Brass Conference is a non-profit music organization devoted to illuminating the beauty of brass as it provides scholarships to its members who qualify. This year will be the 31st annual two-day conference that awards scholarships to music students.
While at the conference, Ms. Pfoutz and the other musicians had an opportunity to try out a wide variety of horns and mouthpieces; compete in the annual quintet competition and apply to receive scholarship awards.
