Delaware & Raritan Greenway has received a four-star or highest rating for excellence in fiscal management from Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator of charities, the Greenway announced this week.
Charity Navigator evaluates the financial health of more than 2,370 of the country’s largest charities. Using public information supplied to the Internal Revenue Service, the organization analyzes fund-raising efficiency and expenses, program and administrative expenses and organizational capacity based on growth in revenue and programs.
D&R Greenway ranked the highest in all areas of financial health, the Greenway said.
This is the second time within a year that the regional land trust has received national recognition for excellence. In June 2002, Greenway Executive Director Linda Mead received the International Paper Conservation Partnership Award for her achievements in land conservation.
The Greenway works to preserve natural and historic lands within the 1,500-square-mile watershed region of the Delaware and Millstone rivers, Stony Brook and the Delaware & Raritan Canal.
This is achieved through outright land purchases and conservation easements, often through partnerships with municipalities, local organizations and businesses.
D&R Greenway has preserved more than 5,500 acres of land valued at more than $110 million since 1989.
