EAST WINDSOR A Helmetta man was seriously injured in what police are calling a hit-and-run accident at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Route 130 and Conover Road.
According to police, Gregory C. Yetman, 26, suffered trauma and internal injuries after his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle collided with a red 1992 two-door Pontiac Sunbird.
Mr. Yetman was traveling north on Route 130 when he struck the driver’s side of the Pontiac, which failed to stop at the intersection, police said.
Mr. Yetman was transported by Capital Health Systems BLS/ALS to Capital Health Systems at Fuld. He is listed in good condition, meaning that his vital signs are stable and within normal limits, and that he is conscious and comfortable.
As a result of the accident and subsequent investigation, the northbound lanes of Route 130 were closed for approximately one hour, reopening at about 7:45 p.m.
The driver of the Pontiac, who has yet to be identified, fled the scene of the accident and headed south on Route 130, turning onto Hankins Road, police said.
The car later was located near 500 Brookwood Gardens. Police interviewed eyewitnesses and brought in a K-9 unit from Manalapan to assist with finding the driver.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver turned off Hankins Road onto Woodland Drive, across Oak Creek Road and onto Cypress Drive.
Hightstown police said that at 7:23 p.m. Patrolman Michael Gordy received a call from Lynda Golden of Browns Mills, who reported that her car matching the description of the suspect vehicle was stolen. Ms. Golden alleged the car was taken from the parking lot of the Hightstown Housing Authority.
Borough police said that she was turned over to East Windsor to make a statement, which they determined to be false.
Hightstown police said the department may charge Ms. Golden with filing a false police report.
The matter is under investigation by East Windsor Police with assistance from the Mercer County prosecutor’s office Serious Collision Response Team.
As of Thursday afternoon, no charges were filed.
