Princeton Borough Police and Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad members worked in tandem Wednesday to save a Princeton Township man who collapsed at the YWCA swimming pool Wednesday morning.
Jan Jeneff, 77, a regular swimmer at the indoor pool, completed his usual 40 laps, got out of the water and sat down in a nearby chair when he slumped over, said Princeton Borough Police Lt. John Reading. Mr. Jeneff momentarily sat upright and slumped back into the chair, Lt. Reading said.
The lifeguard at the pool found Mr. Jeneff was not breathing, called 911 and began CPR, Lt. Reading said.
The police officers arriving on the scene had a portable defibrillator and used the device to try to restart Mr. Jeneff’s heart, Lt. Reading said.
The EMTs from the first aid squad arrived and also worked on Mr. Jeneff, performed CPR, used a defibrillator and gave him an injection, Lt. Reading said. The squad members were able to restore Mr. Jeneff’s pulse and took him to The Medical Center at Princeton for treatment, Lt. Reading said.
"It was a nice piece of teamwork," he said.
Lt. Reading said yesterday Mr. Jeneff was recovering at the Medical Center.
Medical Center officials could not be reached for comment Thursday on Mr. Jeneff’s condition.
