Princeton Theological Seminary will dedicate its new parking facility at noon Wednesday.
The three-deck structure is located on College Road, across from the Springdale Golf Course.
The seminary will celebrate the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the ceremonial entrance of the first car into the garage, followed by tours of the structure and a cookout and party for students and staff on the top deck. The garage will be in use beginning Friday.
The project, begun on May 20, 2002, was completed two months ahead of schedule, according to German Martinez, the seminary’s associate director of facilities.
"It’s been in the planning stages for five years," he said. "It’s one of the most well-planned projects I’ve seen, and one of the best in terms of teamwork. The seminary community has been very patient during this year of limited parking."
The parking garage has spaces for 286 cars and cost a total of $7.5 million to design and build. The structure was designed by Walker Parking of Wayne, Pa., and the exterior façade and landscaping were designed by Ford Farewell Mills & Gatsch of West Windsor.
"This will be a chance for us to celebrate the end of the academic year and the end of the days of circling the campus in search of a parking space," said seminary President Thomas W. Gillespie.
The seminary plans to make the facility available to patrons of Springdale Golf Course and McCarter Theatre.
