D&R Greenway gala to ‘Celebrate Space’

The Delaware & Raritan Greenway will celebrate another year of land preservation partnerships and successes with The Greenway Gala at Chauncey Conference Center at Educational Testing Service in Lawrence on Sunday, June 8 at 6 p.m.
In respect for the memory of the late Frank Taplin of Princeton, whose memorial service will be taking place at 4 p.m. that day, D&R Greenway has moved the time of The Greenway Gala from 4 to 6 p.m. People who have received gala invitations by mail are requested to take note.
The Greenway Gala will also kick off the 2003 Good Time Galas for the Greenway, a yearlong series of parties, festivals and fun that helps raise funds to preserve our area’s most critical natural resource – our open space. All proceeds from these events benefit D&R Greenway, central New Jersey’s regional land trust.
The theme of this year’s Greenway Gala is "Celebrate Space," with the focus on getting out and enjoying the land which D&R Greenway’s partners-in-preservation have helped to protect. Information about two significant trail initiatives that D&R Greenway is actively supporting — the Lawrence Hopewell Trail and the Central New Jersey Trails Association — will be on display.
D& R Greenway will honor Becky Taylor of Hopewell with the Donald B. Jones Conservation Award for 2003. Ms. Taylor was selected to receive this honor due to her personal commitment and professional action to preserve land in our area. As director of community relations at Bristol-Myers Squibb, she spearheaded her company’s significant contributions to Carson Road Woods and the development of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail.
A juried art show and sale will be on view in the Brodsky Gallery at ETS’s Chauncey Conference Center from June 2 through 5 and will be available for a special viewing during The Greenway Gala. Susan Taylor, director of Princeton University Art Museum, acted as juror, selecting 48 works for the exhibition. The art encompasses a broad range of media, with prices ranging from $150 to $2,000.
The public is invited to visit the Brodsky Gallery between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m Monday through Saturday. The art will be on sale throughout the exhibition period.
Tickets to The Greenway Gala are $60. Individual sponsorships begin at $200. Corporate sponsorships are also available.
