The summer art and drama camps being offered at the Arts Council of Princeton will be held during the latter part of June and throughout the months of July and August for youngsters age 5 to 9.
In each weeklong art camp, "Wee Warhols," age 5 and 6, and "Junior Jaspers," age 7 to 9, can try their hand at a variety of artistic techniques and express themselves through an assortment of mediums.
The first art camp begins the week of July 7, and campers can sign up for each week individually, for either the morning or the full day. Morning classes begin at 9 a.m. and finish at noon, while full-day classes run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Each week of art camp offers a different theme. For example, during the week of July 14, campers answer the "Call of the Wild" by creating animal-related artwork and studying artists who have used animal imagery. Throughout the "Folk Art" week of July 28, participants will study folk artists and the history of folk art from different countries, and will create artwork based on these studies.
For campers who enjoy the dramatic arts, instructor Pam Hoffman entices 4- to 12-year-olds to delve into "Weird and Wacky Worlds" in seven individual weeklong sessions. Throughout each week, the participants will develop and create a play based on their imaginations and children’s literature books.
For instance, during the week of June 23, third through sixth graders will visit "The Perfect Parent Store," loosely based on the old story, "Martha Ann and the Parent Store." In this wacky world, children can return their parents to the Parent Store and trade them in for different ones.
Times and age groups vary in the seven weeklong drama classes.
The Arts Council of Princeton is located in the Paul Robeson Building on the corner of Witherspoon Street and Paul Robeson Place in downtown Princeton.
