First Internet endeavor for municipality.

ROCKY HILL Joining the Internet community, the borough Monday launched its official Web site and became a member of the cyberspace world.
The site, www.rockyhill-nj.gov, marks the municipality’s first Internet endeavor. Borough Councilman and webmaster Richard Batchelder said the site is intended to provide up-to-date information on local government, events and municipal services.
"It’s community-oriented," he said, "so the big issues are keeping people up to date on events and calendars."
The Web site features scroll-down links to calendars of events, e-mail addresses of borough officials, local weather and agendas and minutes from Borough Council meetings.
Web site visitors also have the opportunity to join Rocky Hill’s mailing list to receive changes in event times, such as trash pickups, said Mr. Batchelder. A newcomers’ section, still under construction, will allow visitors to find specific sections of the Web site without performing lengthy searches.
"They can just go in and it will take you to a certain portion of the site," he noted.
"It allows someone to go into the system and say, ‘How do I do this, how do I do that?’" he said.
A link to the New Jersey Government Records Council at the Rocky Hill site certifying listed minutes from council meetings is one of the site’s most important characteristics, noted Mr. Batchelder.
"We want people aware of our public records," he said.
Mr. Batchelder encourages residents to contribute personal pictures depicting scenes from the borough to display in the Web site’s photo gallery. So far, the site includes some historical photographs from resident Cliff Moore, he said.
The Web site lists a Rocky Hill Community Group-sponsored coffee with Borough Council members at the Amy Garrett House on Sunday, June 1, from 4 to 6 p.m.
