Foundation announces bequest

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — The CentraState Healthcare Foundation has received a $600,000 bequest from the estate of Marvin "Mac" Clark.

Clark, a longtime Freehold resident, was one of the founders of Freehold Area Hospital, now CentraState Medical Center. He served on the hospital’s board of trustees for many years and was elected an emeritus trustee in 1982, according to a press release.

He also served as president of the Freehold Rotary Club and was a longtime board member of the Monmouth County Vocational School and Brookdale Community College, Lincroft.

"Mac Clark committed much of his time and talent to building this community and even now, his generous spirit continues to enrich us," said Gerry Norkus, chairman of the foundation’s Board of Trustees.

The bequest is unrestricted, which means it can be used for high priority needs within CentraState Healthcare System at the discretion of the trustees, according to the press release.

Clark grew up in upstate New York and graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., before moving to Monmouth County in the 1940s to become the region’s agricultural agent. He and his late wife, Helen, were active members of the First Methodist Church in Freehold and took particular interest in helping young people. The Freehold Rotary Club created a scholarship in Clark’s name for vocational high school students who are seeking higher education in vocational fields.
