MARLBORO — At the 2002-03 statewide National History Day competition, Marlboro Middle School students under the direction of social studies seminar teacher Barbara Gallo were recognized in the following categories: Historical Paper: eighth-grader Adam Gross, second place, and seventh-grader Jeremy Gold-man, third place; Group Documentary: eighth-graders Anamkika Goyal, Allyssa Blaustein and Samantha Small – first place, and seventh-graders Sujoy Gayen and Nischay Rege, third place.
Marlboro Memorial Middle School students under the direction of social studies teacher Stacey Schiller were recognized in the following categories: Historical Paper: eighth-grader Scott Zuccarino, whose paper will be appearing in an upcoming issue of New Jersey Heritage magazine; and Technology Award: eighth-grader Jonathan Newman.
All first- and second-place winners qualify to go to the national competition to be held at the University of Maryland during the week of June 15.
In other school news, the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) Inter-national selected the Marlboro K-8 School District as one of five recipients in the state of New Jersey for its Certificate of Excellence in Financing Reporting Award for Marlboro’s annual report for fiscal year end 2002.
In addition, Marlboro has also successfully met the reporting requirements of Govermental Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 34.
According to a press release from the school district, the Certificate of Excel-lence in Financial Reporting Program was designed by ASBO International to enable school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting. The award is only conferred to school systems that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.
