MARLBORO — The Marlboro Jewish Center will be honoring several leaders at its annual dinner dance on June 8 at 7:30 p.m. The honorees include Shelley Edelman, Isabel and Paul Jacob, Dalia Luss and Rene Kipnes. The dinner dance will be held in the Marlboro Jewish Center ballroom.

Shelley Edelman will be the guest of honor. She is the immediate past president of the Marlboro Jewish Center. According to a press release, she has dedicated her volunteer time to the Marlboro Jewish Center over her 13 years of involvement. Edelman has served on a range of committees throughout her years of membership.

Among her volunteer roles, she has served as vice president of education, sisterhood president and served on the executive committee. She is currently chairing a committee to honor the synagogue’s only cantor, Neil Ben-Isvy.

Isabel and Paul Jacobs will be the recipients of the Ohev Shalom Award. This is awarded to individuals who show outstanding dedication and service to the synagogue. Isabel Jacobs has been the coordinator of the Jewish center’s blood drive since its inception. Paul Jacobs is being honored for his commitment to serving the Jewish center’s minyanim and as historian for the synagogue. They are one of the original member families of the Marlboro Jewish Center.

Dalia Luss is honored for her excellence in education. She is celebrating her bat mitzvah (13th) year as principal of the Marlboro Jewish Center Hebrew school. A native of Israel, Luss attended Hebrew University and Gratz College, receiving advanced degrees in Jewish education and Hebrew literature. Prior to joining the Marlboro Jewish Center, Luss had served as principal and teacher at congregational schools in Philadelphia, Matawan and Old Bridge.

Rene Kipnes, the second recipient of the Excellence in Education Award, is a 25-year veteran in the field of education. She is the director of the Marlboro Jewish Center preschool. She established the preschool in 1988 and has been its only director, carrying out her philosophy that the needs of young children are met in a warm and loving atmosphere where they can grow and learn in a developmentally appropriate and supportive environment.
