Letter: Stewart declines interim opportunity

To the editor:

A year ago, I made a decision to retire and provide the Board of Education ample time to plan for the transition of leadership. While the transition has not worked out smoothly, my decision stands. I appreciate the sentiments of those who would like me to stay until a new superintendent is found, but June 30 will remain as my last day as your superintendent.
There are many positive signs for the South Brunswick Schools. According to New Jersey School Boards consultant Carole Larsen, the new list of inquiries for the superintendent position is more extensive and qualitatively superior to the original search. I believe that this is a tribute to our community that demonstrated strong support for the budget, elected three outstanding board members who are experienced and intelligent and to the leadership of new board president, Robert Long.
I am very optimistic about the future of the school system, and I wish to reaffirm that South Brunswick is not only a wonderful place to live, but also an outstanding place to be superintendent of schools.
