POLICE BLOTTER

   At approximately 3:29 a.m. May 16, police responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident that occurred in front of a Michelle Lane home.
   According to police, a 1993 gray Ford Thunderbird had struck a tree, leaving the front passenger of the vehicle, Sean Vance, 19, of Crick Hollow Court, trapped in the vehicle.
   The driver of the vehicle — Michael Pidich, 20, of Euclid Avenue — was standing outside the vehicle when police arrived. Mr. Vance was extricated from the vehicle by the Hillsborough Rescue Squad and Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. No. 38, and then airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by North Star Medevac for treatment of unspecified injuries. He has since been released from the hospital but no other information was available.
   According to police, Mr. Pidich sustained minor scratches and did not require medical attention.
   The accident remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call the department’s investigative division at 369-4323.

Christopher Heffernan, 22, of New Providence was charged with driving while intoxicated on May 18.
   According to police, Mr. Heffernan was taken into custody at approximately 2:30 a.m. outside the Wawa convenience store on Triangle Road after police had been called to the convenience store on an unrelated report of disorderly conduct.
   While investigating the disorderly conduct matter, police observed Mr. Heffernan staggering while attempting to unlock the door to his vehicle. Police then conducted a field sobriety test and determined that Mr. Heffernan, who told police he had driven to the Wawa, was intoxicated.
   Mr. Heffernan was transported to police headquarters for processing and later released pending an appearance in municipal court.

Cory Fernandez, 18, of Bridgewater was charged with driving while intoxicated and underage consumption of alcohol on May 14.
   According to police, Mr. Fernandez was taken into custody at approximately 10:30 p.m. after police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 206, near the Getty gas station, in which Mr. Fernandez was involved. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
   Mr. Fernandez was later released pending an appearance in municipal court.

Jill Lafleur, 40, of Long Acre Court was charged with theft by shoplifting on May 12.
   According to a police report, Ms. Lafleur had attempted to shoplift about $20 worth of cosmetics, toiletries and other miscellaneous items from Shop Rite in the Nelsons Corner plaza. She was taken into custody at 8:30 a.m.
   Police say two store employees saw Ms. Lafleur walk past the store’s registers with a number of items in her possession. At that point, the employees confronted Ms. Lafleur and called police.
   Ms. Lafleur was later released pending an appearance in municipal court.

An employee of Culinary Creations on Route 206 reported at approximately 7 a.m. on May 21 that someone had vandalized the eatery’s flowerbed.
   According to a police report, the employee estimated that $1,000 worth of damage was caused to the flowerbed.
   The employee told police that the afternoon prior he had told a group of juveniles who were riding skateboards near the eatery to stay clear of the flowerbed. He believes the skateboarders returned later that evening and vandalized the flowerbed.
